first met Doug when I was just starting out — an apprentice mechanic, full of curiosity but not much else. From day one, Doug was more than just a boss. He was a mentor, a teacher, and eventually, a mate. He had this incredible wealth of knowledge — not just about engines, but about life. He didn’t just teach me how to turn a wrench, he taught me how to do things properly, to take pride in the work, and to always keep learning. There wasn’t a problem too big or a question too small — Doug always had time to show you the right way to do it, usually with a story to go with it. Doug loved his sport. Whether it was the game from the weekend or a bit of banter about whose team was better, there was always a bit of friendly rivalry going around. But at the end of the day, Doug’s favorite thing — maybe even more than teaching or talking footy — was sharing a cold beer. That was Doug’s way. He made space for people. Whether it was over the workbench or over a pint, he listened, he laughed, and he looked after those around him. I owe a lot to Doug. Not just for the skills he taught me, but for the example he set — of hard work, loyalty, and making time for people. He may be gone, but the lessons he taught and the laughs we shared will stay with me, and with many of us here, for life. Rest easy, Doug — and thanks for everything.
