Im sorry to have not been able to make it to AKL for the funeral but i watched online. Uncle Derry was a big part of my life a kid, Mum and I would pop over for a coffee almost weekly. On my 5th birthday I remember him walking my present up the driveway next to him, he had made me a beautifully hand painted wooden duck puppet and was very skillfully puppeteering him towards me. Uncle Derry was always so kind to me and mum, he would encourage me to pursue my sketching and painting and would often give me tips and tricks on how to improve, he would tell me i could do anything i wanted and that it didnt matter what anyone else thought. He would pay me to clean his house for him and would sit and chat with me about the latest national geographic magazine as I did so. May he be at peace now and reunite with Mum on the other side. Hey Derry, You were a great picture framer - meticulous with your work because you loved the art so much. That time was the happiest time for us. It doesn’t matter about the rest. One of my fondest memories of my big brother........ Derry, when he was younger was into music. He loved to listen to the soundtrack from johnathon Livingston seagull, as well as cat Stevens. I remember I would have recurring nightmares. I would wake up scared and get out of bed. Derry was always up listening to his music. He would tuck me under his arm and tell me to listen to the words and the music. He made me feel safe. Rest in peace big brother xxx
