Hartvig-Hansen, Pelekuonga; (nee Latu)
Pelekuonga is a loving mother and supportive friend to all those around her.
She is best described as a grounded person with a funny sense of humor. She maintained her values of integrity, honesty and respect throughout her 60 years of life. She has dedicated her life to supporting her family, encouraging others to value education and pursuing life goals.
Pele enjoyed talking about her growth from her life growing up in Tonga where she met her husband Leif where they both moved to live in Denmark where her son Tofa was born, before moving to America where her daughter Sandi was born. Pele then moved with her family to New Zealand in 1995. Pele has pursued education in nursing and as a registered teacher in ECE.
She had a motto that she followed “if they can do it, I can do it too”. She believed that viewing the achievement of others, not to compare one self to another, but to pursue the same success for a better future, dependency and stability. A motto that she had lived and shared with others.
She will be greatly missed by others. “Kua whetūrangitia koe” (Return, take your place amongst the stars along with your ancestors that adorn the sky).
