MILLS, Bernard John (John), peacefully on Saturday 11 October at Mary Potter Hospice after a short but valiant battle, with his family by his side. Aged 83 years. Treasured husband of Jill for 62 years, and cherished father of Bridget, Barbara, Jennifer and Andrew and father-in-law of Gordon and Ieina.
A service for John will be held at St Barnabas Anglican Church, 15 Maida Vale Road, Roseneath, Wellington on Tuesday 21 October at 11:00, followed by private cremation.

Tributes
John was a widely respected and popular officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the course of his career he represented New Zealand at our Embassies in London, Samoa, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. He was High Commissioner in Kiribati from 1996 to 1999. John proved himself a versatile and talented diplomat across many areas of the Ministry’s work and made a significant contribution to New Zealand’s external interests. Together with his wife Jill he did much to advance our interests and enhance our reputation abroad. John’s colleagues extend their deep sympathy to His family in their loss.
