I first got to know Bill through our mutual love of cars and machinery, but soon got to know Bryden as well. She was devoted to Bill, and supported him in his endeavours....well, most of them! Many times she had to act as his hand-brake, but she was only protecting him from himself! They were a good match. Bryden was kind and generous. She took a special interest in our daughter, who was showing great promise as a seamstress and regularly picking up prizes in Wearable Art competitions. One day we received a message that a parcel was coming by freight from her to us, 300km away. The package arrived, and in it was a sewing machine for our daughter, donated by Bryden. It was her way of encouraging our daughter to carry on with her craft, which she did by gaining a qualification in costume construction at New Zealand's national drama school in Wellington. Bryden's thoughtfulness was a catalyst to push our daughter's dreams along the way to success, and we have never forgotten it. Over the decades Bryden also took a keen interest in our pet corgi dogs, and was always keen to catch up on what the 'rascals' were up to! We stayed in regular touch with Bryden until near the end, and just want to record our sincere condolences to her family, both here and abroad. She will be missed indeed.
There are many things I could say in tribute to our Granny Bryden. I will always remember the story books you recorded on tape so you could read us to sleep even on the other side of the world, and the beautiful sewn and embroidered gifts you gave us. You passed to me your love of dogs, and of sewing. Using your sewing skills to help others was an inspiration and something I hope to continue. I will carry your name with me always, and hope to make you proud. Grieving from such a distance is not an easy thing and I wish we'd been able to visit in recent years. We love and miss you deeply. All my love, (granddaughter) Bryden xxx
So from all on the other side of the planet (Ireland) we will miss you Bryden - we kept in touch though being 1000 of miles apart - Harry is on his travels and will be watching from Vietnam. The rest of us are here - Mum is in Oxford and Tracy in London - what an amazing lady and she will be missed greatly - thoughts and respect from all of us on this side of the world - Tim xxxxx
Dearest Bryden, With much love and deepest gratitude, I wish you eternal peace. I take comfort in knowing that you are now joyfully reunited with your beloved Bill and my dear Youli. Our friendship has been one of the greatest blessings of my life — a beautiful bond that has lasted over 37 years; a journey filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories. Over the years, you so fondly called me your Chinese daughter, and I always felt so proud to call you my Kiwi mum. You were family to me — not by blood, but by heart. Thank you for all the love, care, and support you’ve so generously given to me and my boys throughout the years. You often said the boys made you proud, but in truth, it was your love, encouragement, and inspiration that helped guide them toward their achievements. Calvin’s admission to Harvard University and Daniel’s accomplishments in photography stand as milestones that reflect your lasting influence. On behalf of the boys, who are far away in the States but hold you close in their hearts, I thank you — deeply, truly, and forever. Rest in peace, dearest Bryden. You will always live in our hearts. Until we meet again.. xxx Marie Dai

Grief is the price we pay for love.Bryden was a lovely lady. As a young mum of her 4 grandchildren I remember clearly the joy and excitement, when a parcel arrived from her with hand made clothes for them Treasured because they were made with love. Those same sewing skills , she used selflessly to make care packages for prem babies, something i greatly admired. In more recent years it was lovely to get to chat with her more, even the occasional video call and exchanging photos of Theo and Max her great grandsons..Rest in peace now, gone to be with your beloved Bill. Across the miles you are loved and will never be forgotten Julie xx
