Mum, so beautiful inside and out - the kindest Mother that a Daughter could wish for and a remarkable woman who will always inspire me.  She has ensured my life has been full of excitement and she taught me to work hard.

Mum worked so ferociously all her life - an amazing journey coming from remote Rotuma Island to Fiji, then to New Zealand and going on to being a very successful Hotelier in Devon UK.  She travelled back and forward to NZ from England most years to be with her children, she didn't see age as an impediment to catching up with her children across vast oceans.

She met my Father Lynn Senior when his NZAF Seaplane landed on the water in Fiji and he walked out in his Airforce uniform, he must have looked stunning to a young island girl – what a romantic story ! Later in life she found love again and had so many travel adventures with her husband Leo Clarke.

I have been so fortunate to have spent the last few years, every day living together with her and my Kim, we have been the A-TEAM with much laughter, fishing adventures, shopping trips, Happy Hours and enjoying Christmas 365 days a year.

Mum and I often went to the Boat Ramp, where she would tell me that when she passes away she wants to be put in the Sea so she can have  picnics with her beloved son, David, on Frenchmans Cap Island and Leo will be swimming to New Zealand from Thurlestone, England to meet her and they will all swim with the dolphins and continue their adventures around the world.

Mum and I been each others Guardian Angels whilst on Earth and this will continue now she is in Heaven. We have both looked and cared for each other over the years sometimes from different countries but distance wasn't an obstacle.. She will live in my heart forever.

Love you Mum xxx  Michelle

Tributes

My memories of Emily are mostly from when Michelle and I were kids in the 70s. She loved to tell us the story about how Michelle and I were next to each other in the hospital when we were born, and we loved to here it. I remember one day she took us somewhere on her little white MG and I wanted one of those ever since! Beautiful Emily was always glamorous and generous, as well as an amazing hostess, and always kind to me. Rest in peace lovely Emily 🌺

Dear Emily, My lovely Sister in Law. So many memories of happy times , long, long ago when you arrived in New Zealand. We loved you from the start. . You really have had a very adventurous life and now have left to join the loved ones waiting for you. Farewell, God Bless.

To my beautiful sister in law Emily. I first meet you at a very young age when my brother brought you home to New Lynn not long after you were married. Such a kind and beautiful princess from Rotuma island who was so kind and nice to me when I was at such a young boy. You were always that way to me throughout your life and I will miss you so much. My one regret was I didn’t get to spent more time with you during my later life but time goes so quickly in our lives these days. When I think of you Emily I think of the Micheal Jackson song Heal the World where a verse says heal the world make it a better place for you and me and the entire human race. 100 million Emily’s in the world sure would make it a better place. Love you Emily. Sandy and myself are so lucky to have had you in our lives.

Mum and I shared a very special bond, and I have so many wonderful memories of her that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. When I was young, I remember coming home from school and sitting with Mum while we looked through my school books, and I can still see the pride on her face. She taught me to cook and iron my own clothes from an early age because, as she would tell me, I needed to know how to “look after myself when I was older”. She taught me to always work hard to be the best at what I choose to do which has stayed with me throughout my life. Mum was always smiling and had a natural elegance and sense of class, but alongside it was an enormous warmth and friendliness that made her loved by everyone who knew her. I was incredibly fortunate to spend the last few Christmases with Mum in Thurlestone, and we made some beautiful memories together. At a Christmas dinner in the Thurlestone Hotel, there was dancing. I’m not a dancer, but I saw Mum looking at the dance floor and took her hand. The enormous smile that appeared on her face as we walked out together is something I will never forget. Afterwards, we walked home, hand in hand, as a light snow began to fall. At her home, we would sit together in front of the fire, warm inside while watching the snow falling outside. Mum absolutely loved being warm—her house was sometimes so hot that I would sleep on top of the bedclothes. Yet during the night, she would quietly sneak into my room and cover me with blankets “in case I was cold”. That was Mum. No matter how old I became, I was still her boy. I am so grateful for the time we had together and for the memories she has left me. I love you, Mum. I always have, and I always will.
