Tetzner Thorsten, Born in Kiel, Germany 1955, Thorsten died 13 June in Auckland aged 70, after surviving a stroke in February 2025. A long term resident of Awhitu. Friend to many, thorn in the side to some,Thorsten was loved by a wide circle of friends in both NZ and Germany.

Viking expert, heathen from Holstein, motor biker, chef, barrista, fisherman, tinkerer, salvager, wood chopper, lover of history, news, politics and languages, unique wordsmith, debater, lover of food, a wide reader and always close to the sea. A man of both physical strength and a creative mind. He will remain alive in our stories and memories. He was one of a kind. Arohanui, Thorsten.

Thorsten will be farewelled at a private committal service and a memorial gathering for him be held at a later date.
