I have so many fond memories of John who had a wicked sense of humor and a zest for life, but was also one of the best bosses I ever had. Two memories stand out , the first when he was giving a lecture at a company conference after lunch, and one of the audience fell asleep. John stopped talking, came down and touched the guy then John went through this routine of "I thought you had died, that's so great you are still alive in an over the top fashion. " The rest of the audience was in stitches!!! My second was when my boss in Hong Kong decided i was not doing enough on Dow projects and wanted to fire me. John told me to fly to Hong Kong to see him, helped me prepare a data set to prove him wrong and I was able to retain my job, thanks to John's efforts, something that i am eternally grateful for.

It was an honour to know John; he was always a joyful person and provided wise counsel as well as bringing a special social quality to every situation. My condolences to John's family - treasure his memory as many of us will.
