JAMES Roy Charles

Following a long and courageous battle it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our very strong, brave and determined husband, Dad and Grandad, at Te Rangimarie Hosipce on Monday 25 May 2026.  Treasured husband for 40+ years of Pauline, rock solid Dad of Jay and Paula, Special Grandad of Archer and Hugo.  Much loved son of the late Graham and Dorothy.  Loved brother of Mark and Debbie, and John.  Wonderful son-in-law of the late Johnny and Carol Johnson. Loving and best brother-in-law of Murray, David, Tony, Kelly and their families.

A service to celebrate Roy’s life will be held at Eagars Te Henui Chapel, 46 Watson Street, New Plymouth on Saturday 30 May 2026 at 10.30am followed by a private cremation.

In preference to flowers, please consider a donation to Urenui District Nurses - (Urenui & Mokau Rural Healthcare Inc, account number 15-3945-0182556 00) and Taranaki Hospice.

For those unable to attend, Roy’s funeral will be livestreamed via his tribute page.

Oh Pauline what a beautiful service for Roy. You are so brave. I have torrents of tears whilst I watched this. Who am I going to hang out in the kitchen with after dinner doing dishes when I visit. Who’s going to pick me up in a truck with the doggies from the airport when I come to visit. I adored Roy - he was the example of what a man should be - loving and kind and accepting. Your are that couple in a million and your love was palpable - the kind of love that is recognisable as a rarity in a lifetime. How lucky you both were to be each others person - and how lucky that we will always know this and be able to say what an awesome couple and what a beautiful love and how in awe we were. We will always talk about this with you. Love you all - want to give the biggest of cuddles - I’ll see you soon. ❤️💐
