Thinking of Joe today as his life is celebrated. Taken far too soon as we all thought hé had many more miles to cover but sadly we don’t always get a choice in how long we live. Many fond memories of Joe who I met through my husband Dean and the short track ice racing fratenity. His love and dedication to the sport ensured that the Hauraki Ice Racing Club in Auckland prospered. Many hours were spent filling out funding grant forms so the kids had the necessary gear to ensure they were safe when skating. He also had great patience for teaching and was pretty darn handy on a pair of skates too. He was a competitieve skater right through until the Masters Grade and I remember a few races where his grit and determination meant he keept up with and even beat much younger (and probably fitter) skaters. Joe also coached me through getting my marine radio operator license, me thinking I was golden because I was a friend, not so he made me work for that license! Rest now Joe your life marathon has reached its end. Life will be a bit duller without your light shining on us all.
