Mike, thanks for all the great banter and yarns on those long on calls and shifts in APU. You loved a good gossip, loved to laugh and always had the best stories. I wish you could have had longer. Rest well old friend.
Wishing you comfort and strength at this very sad time. Fond memories of Michael when your family lived in Hamilton. Please know we are thinking of you.
I remember Michael as a baby & toddler and how proud of him you were then as you grew your family Grant & Kim, and from what I’ve heard over the years he continued to make you proud throughout his life that he led to the full in the time he had. Sending aroha, hugs and strength to you and family at this very sad time. Leanne xox (nee Symon)
I am so sorry for the loss of Mike. He really touched the lives of everyone who knew him. I remember my first day as a doctor having him as my buddy and how grateful I was to have been paired up with him for our first run. Perfect mix of dorky, wise and fun and as humble as they come. It was soo comforting. Although kinda annoying as he did keep ordering six shots of hazelnut syrup or a scoop of ice cream in my coffee as a prank. Or call me pretending to be a patient with an acute ischaemic limb, or telling me I was actually on call as I was leaving the building as a joke. Love and prayers from our little family to yours. Xxxx
You're a legend mate. Much love.
My heartfelt condolences to Mike's family. I feel so very very sad as I recall visiting Michael in hospital after his first neurosurgery and met Michael's Mum when he was a student here. I remember him so well and that smile. There are no words to describe the loss of such an amazing young man.
Though there are no words to fully express the grief that Mike's passing has left in the Funnell family, I still wish to express my deepest condolences, particularly to Annie and the kids. He was a wonderful colleague to work with, with perhaps one of the biggest smiles of any of the docs at Tauranga hospital when I worked there. Arohanui
Thank you Mike and Annie, for being such wonderful steadfast friends to my daughter Kyra. You welcomed Tom and Kyra into your home when they moved to Tauranga, until they found a place of their own. Seeing you both so happy here in Auckland only 9 precious months ago, I marveled at your resilience and quiet fortitude in managing to put so much together to be here. Annie, your supreme love and devotion, sacrifice and care has walked every unforgettable step of the way. This connection has made a shelter that can never die, it will protect you and nourish Millie and Max long into the future as they make their own way in the world. In any given moment he is still there for you. In quiet reflection, he is listening. Always he will remain in your hearts 💕
