It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Ian Coleman Barrett, known fondly to his friends and those who admired him as "Sykes."

Dad passed over at home with his loving whanau, he was surrounded with love and with the love of life, our mum.

He was the profoundly loved and devoted husband of Haehaetu (nee Pene) for 62 remarkable years. Theirs was a love story for the ages; they lived for each other and were never willingly apart.

Ian was a genuine gentleman, true to his word, who lived and breathed for his wife and children. He was the adored father and father-in-law of William Preston Rahiri "Crick" and Steph, the late, cherished Elisabeth "Lizzie," and Haehaetu Junior.

He was the absolute ROCK of the Barrett whanau, The Blue Roof, Te Koutu. His strength, wisdom, and unwavering support were the foundation for his entire family and community.

Ian was the proud grandfather of Coleton and Aroha, Shanayla Haehaetu Rika and Aaliyah the doting gre-grandfather of Farrah and Preston.

He is predeceased by his parents, William Preston Barrett and Nora Kathleen (nee Doone). He was a loved brother to Barry, brother-in-law to the late Narelle, and uncle to Lindy and Andrew.

His loss will be felt immensely by his family and friends here, across Australia, and in the USA. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, love, and unwavering commitment.

Dad will be lying at home until his service on Saturday 15 November.
