GARDINER, Riria Kataraina (Kath), passed away Wednesday morning 21st of July 2021
at the Whakatane Hospital, aged 86 years. Daughter of Tamehana (Tom) Gardiner and
Amohaere (nee Powell) formerly of Grieve’s Road, Otakiri.
Kath will lay at Kokohinau Marae, Te Teko commencing on the 21st of July 2021.
Funeral Mass at the marae will be at 10am the 24th of July 2021, followed
by the burial at te urupa Omatariua, Te Mapou.

This noble kuia was a treasured member of the Te Teko, Ngāti Awa kaumātua roopu. She lived a full and happy life with her whānau, mokopuna and friends. She had a zest for life, was a devoted Catholic and had a unique and special relationship with the saints who she spoke with often. I miss my beautiful kuia, she loved unconditionally and I enjoyed her all of my life. Riria Kataraina Gardiner, it an honour to carry your name. I love you forever x
