Bernard this is your sister. I only found out you had passed after speaking to Mike after your wake and I remember lot’s more about our childhood and would have loved to share memories of you of when we were kids. They missed some of your best stories. You and mum and Ray made ginger beer and bottled it and those were the tops that blew off in the night in our laundry Ken- it wasn’t dads beer. Bern and Ray were joined at the hip. You were both such wags, always happy and mischievous and up to something new. You both got into home photography with your brownie cameras and you also created a developing room outside in our small shed. Iv many photos from that era. You built trollies from old pram frames you’d find by pestering neighbours for bits, you would attach dials and gadgets to them as you built them that you found at the hospital rubbish tip which you would take me to, to help carry home all your junk. You always finished by doing some ratting to make us laugh and squeal b4 we headed on home. The trollies you made, using wooden crates, nail boxes- any flotsam you could find. And twine for steering. Iv pics of you both zooming me round the back lawn at high speed telling me when to turn. I loved those times with my two carefree brothers. You both loved playing down in the many gullies that all led to the Waikato river. One day you both came home with Murray Scott from across the rd and he was covered in thick brown mud right up to his nose, eyes and head. He went down in quickmud in a gully stream you crossed and you both had to lever him out. Mum hosed him down before letting him go home. She was so scared his mum would growl at you both. You worked at the Johns bros grocery in Bader St after school and the Johns men loved you and promoted you. You and Ray were always so good and loving to me. Thanku for loving me so well in my early life. No more space to write re the rest of your wonderful young life. Rest peacefully my dearest brother. I miss you so much xx
