7 April 1942 – 3 July 2025
Seldon Carolyn Margret
Born, Tenby, Wales, 7th April 1942
Died, Dargaville, NZ, 3rd July 2025
Much-loved daughter of the late Reginald and Nora Seldon
Mother of David, Michael, and Richard
Sister of the late Angela Geddes.
Grandmother to Charlie, Lilah, and Kipling
Aunt of Mark, Tim & Becky.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Carolyn.
Mum died the way she lived fighting to the very end, refusing to give up. We were lucky enough to be by her side when she exhaled for the last time. It was her wish, & we are all profoundly grateful that we could honour it.
We would like to thank all the team at Dargaville Hospital for their kindness, empathy, & care. Thank you to Josie, Annette (who also adopted Mum’s dog, Pedro), & Linda from Hospice. Toni from MND, who taught the staff at the home how to care for Mum with dignity & helped them understand what MND really means—especially how mentally alert she remained, even when she could no longer speak, also a special acknowledgement to Sheridan Miller & Jaclyn Druitt, for so many years and reasons.
To all the people who were part of Mum’s life over the past 20 odd years since she moved to Baylys Beach, Regina, Lissa, Karen, Rodger, Heather and many others, you touched her life, cared for her & supported her.
We are personally grateful, and so was she.
Rest peacefully mum, under challenging circumstances you did the best you could have, and we are living proof.
“Through wintertime we call on spring,
And through the spring on summer call,
And when the abounding hedges ring
Declare that winter's best of all:
And after that there is nothing good
Because the springtime has not come
Nor know that what disturbs our blood
Is but its longing for the tomb.”
William Butler Yeats
