"Dear Browyn, Belinda, James, Les & Darryl, Mark & Cat & boys, although distance and busy lifestyles have meant that contact with Julie, or "Jules", has been less frequent over the decades, our whole family has vivid and very fond memories of time spent with Julie when we were all much much younger. Whether it was swimming off the reef or jumping from the jetty at Port Noarlunga, or tobogganing down the sand dunes by the "Honka-pa-stinka" River, playing cricket on Grandma and Grandpa's back lawn, or having to sit quietly while the cricket was on TV, our summers spent at Anderson Avenue have left indelible imprints on our memories. And of course Julie is entwined in all of that. Chris remembers her as being the one who was more responsible, so maybe if he had consulted with Julie, she would have advised him not to mix concoctions in an old weed killer container for he & Les to drink! Jan reminded us of Julie's " snorty" laugh when something really funny happened or was remembered. This happened a lot when reminiscing about "George" or "Iris", our Grandparents, and about David, her Dad. She had a wonderful way of telling anecdotes about growing up, SO funny, but also filled with love & affection. Iris was particularly appreciative of Julie's generous hospitality when Iris and her friend Jean visited the family some years ago in Auckland. When I think of Julie, I always see her smile, hear her laughing cheerful voice and remember the positive slant she put on things. Those things will stay with us forever and we're thankful for all the wonderful times we had with Jules. Love to the whole family from Iris, Chris, Jan, Mandi and Greg. Sorry, I forgot to say that we're making a donation in honour and memory of Julie to St John Ambulance Service in New Zealand. Lots of love, Mandi xxxx "
"To Bro, Belinda & James, Lesley, Mark & family - Our loving sympathy on the very sad death of dear Julie. All the Rowlands family have been wonderful friends over many years, and the news of Julie’s death was so unexpected and sad. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Lynette & Cec., Celia, Andrew, Jennifer & Richard Stott"
"Hi Lesley, Janet and I were rocked to the core to hear of the loss of our beautiful Julie. The shining highlight in attending the sad occasion of Brian Charter's funeral was to see Julie, Lesley and Mark, the Rowlands kids again. And of course we were so impressed with Julie for coming across from NZ to be with us. And how happy was she! You probably already have the photo but it says it all front and centre. She told us of her wonderful life and family in her adopted home of Auckland. Back to those youth group days, I recall that while many of us were celebrating in our own noise, Julie was also in the fun up to her ears but in a much quieter and considered fashion. I can remember how thrilled we all were for her when she announced that Law at Monash was her destination. In typical Rowlands fashion, always more to Julie with her smarts and diligence and preparedness for the hard yards. And brave too, when she lined up for a ride on the back of my motorbike! You did a wonderful job at the service Lesley... a real tough job and a ridiculously unexpected one for the little sister. Janet and I shared a tear or two that's for sure. It has been a tragic reminder of how lucky we were to have Julie present there as part of our lives. David and Geraldine were just spot on in our world Lesley, and hearing you today was a reminder of how highly we thought of them. So grateful that we had a chance to share some of that with Julie so recently and so grateful for having her in our lives. Please pass on our condolences to Mark and the rest of the family Lesley. Love David and Janet."
"Dear Les, we want to let you all know how much we will miss our dear friend Julie. We loved our monthly catchup on Skype and our visits to the Wright's will never be forgotten. Much love to you all. Jan and John. "
"Dear Leslie, I worked with Julie at Deakin at the Waun Ponds Campus. We were privileged to attend her wedding. We managed to visit with Julie and Bro in New Zealand. She was respected for her ability and her work ethic. Rest In Peace dear Julie, I will remember you always. Sincere wishes to you and all the family. Kindest Regards Jean and Jack Jansen"
Hi Les I am so so sorry to hear about Julie. My thoughts are with you and Mark and Julie’s family at this time. I guess we were like cousins growing up together given that are parents did everything together. All those years of summer and Easter holidays in Lorne. Such wonderful happy times. I am away right now but will contact you later I can and when things are more settled. Please know I am thinking of you. Jo. x.
"Hi Les, I didn’t want to let this time pass without saying that my thoughts are with Julie, you,Mark and Julie’s family. The world is lesser for the loss of such a gentle, kind and gracious person. I hope she is floating in the universe somewhere enjoying her rest. Love Kate ( Webber )"
"We were so, so sad to learn of Julie’s sudden death. We feel deeply for Bro, Belinda and James in their grief and surround them and the wider family with much love. The Rowlands family came into our lives in the early 1970s as good friends from Adelaide of the Charter family. The whole Rowlands family soon became close & active friends with us and many in the Wesley Church community. With Les and Mark, Jules became an active member of our Youth Group and we spent many, many good times together in the group. Jules was not a loud member - unlike a few of us - but always very engaged, positive and enthusiastic. We admired Jules for her commitment to her studies in the law and followed her career - first in general practice and then with Deakin University - with great interest. As our lives went on over the years, Jules took an active interest in our young family and often babysat for us. We were sorry to see Jules head to New Zealand but knew, as we got to know Bro, that it was for all the right reasons. Our occasional visits to Auckland were fantastic opportunities to catch up with Jules, Bro, Melinda and James as they were growing up. In fact, our daughter Liz - who Jules would baby sit - flew by herself to NZ when she was about 14 to spend time with the Wright family, had a marvellous time and even did some babysitting! Our memories of Jules are all good - a fundamentally good, capable, gentle and gracious person with a beautiful character who loved her family and was living a contented life. Julie’s sudden death has saddened all who knew her. We greatly mourn her loss at such a young age but give deep thanks for having known her. Keith & Heather Fagg"
