"It was with absolute horror and overwhelming sadness that I heard of this news today (9 June). Joanne was a fabulous young lady who taught, not only young children and adults to swim, but also taught me to teach swimming! I will never forget her commitment to the discipline, her love of life and her infectious smile. My heart goes out to her lovely family, thinking of you all. RIP Joanne, taken far too early. X"
"Although it’s been many years since we swam together, I remember your passion for swimming, your tireless efforts in the teaching pool and your easy smile. Thinking of your family at this very difficult time. Rest easy. James.x"

"What an absolute shock! We have very fond memories of you teaching Elisha and Josh Lifesaving at William Gregg. Utterly tragic, Our thoughts are with all of your family and friends at this very sad time. Fly high Jo x"
"We’ve been thinking of your family, friends, and colleagues as they deal with this devastating loss. We didn’t know you well, but watched you each week as you taught swimming classes and really admired your teaching style and manner with the children. We will never forget hearing “one banana, two bananas, three bananas”, “monkey monkey monkey” or “on our backs we lie nice and flat, as we swim around the pool” in your gorgeous accent. Thank you for all that you’ve done for our children - you will never be forgotten. Our sincere condolences to all those who are grieving your loss xx"
It was with great sadness that I heard the news today. Jo was a beautiful soul who brought joy to all that met her. I will always remember the fun times we had when she worked at Lake Keepit on her gap year. All the people at camp loved and adored her. Jo we all will miss you but heaven now has another beautiful angel ?? RIP my dear friend .
"Banana Jo, we came in to your life and you came in to our lives. You have a true gift with children. Our little Arthur started at the swim school less than a year ago, and only a few months in to swimming he was moved in to your class, Arthur let you in to his world, not many people get to be a part of Arthurs little world, and for that we are very blessed to have had you a part of Arthurs world even tho it was for a short time, it was for so many reasons beyond just a swimming teacher, and for that we will be forever thank you to you. We will miss you, your way of teaching, the fun you put in to each lesson and the passion you had for your job and the people you taught in your life"
"I met Jo when she came to join our team out in New Zealand, we soon became good friends, exploring parts of the country close to home and just enjoying evenings out with a takeaway at the beach or having a drink in one of the pubs near the beach. Going to miss you soo much. I will be back out to New Zealand to travel around like we were going to. Love to you and all your family. Xxx "
"I suppose it's time to put my thoughts down about a lovely person Jo Joanna I first met Jo a few years ago when I started working at William Gregg Leisure Centre. I really got to know her when my shift changed to a Thursday, we both were teaching one to one lessons at the same time. We would have chats between and during the lessons. I learnt a lot from her. One of my memories of Jo. She gave me my appraisal. She had a report from, I believe her sister who came to watch my lesson, without my knowledge. The main thing I can remember about the assessment was that I was quiet or not loud enough when instructing to the children. Mind you I was at a disadvantage I was in the middle between one teacher who was teaching at the Splash Pool and Jo who was teaching at the deep end. I didn't stand a chance both of them were very loud! I enjoyed working with Jo as she always had a smile on her face. The number of times she told me off for not putting the swimming noodles away properly I did try my best but never seem to sort them out, she did. Another memory I have is being shown some of the cakes that she had iced but sadly I never got to try any of them! I looked forward to a catch up with Jo, each time she came back to England, to hear stories about a beautiful country New Zealand and her life over there. We will all miss you JO, rest in peace xx "
"Jo, what can I say?!. You were an amazing friend to have, many giggles and laughter we had together both at work and outside of work, drunken moments out up Ripley, firework n bonfire nights, Belper games as teletubbies and lots of trampoline fun. The incredible time we had out in Australia, (still cant believe that's over 4years ago now!) Thank you for being a true friend, I will miss you xxxxxx"
So many giggles we have had on and off the trampoline. Whether it was fun or silly ideas and activities you were always up for it. You are a credit to your mum and dad. Gonna miss that mischievous smile and the telling off after playing in the toys after setting up the chrimbo decorations ;). Forever beautiful Jo Xxxxx
"Jo, it was a pleasure to work alongside you at William Gregg and for School Swimming. I always rated your swimming lessons and your quirkiness for the store room lay out! 'Monday Club' became a weekly thing for me and sticky 13 at the Inn the Middle on quiz nights - both of which were really enjoyable. I was shocked to hear you were moving away but I know it's really what you wanted and can see you loved it! Couldn't believe the news when I heard, so tragic, so sad. Rest In Peace. Xxx "
Joanne My thoughts are with all of your family and friends as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of a beautiful soul and friend to many. Fly High on the wings of the angels and find your eternal peace. Sleep tight sweetheart Anne Dave and Hannah x

Joanne was a breath of fresh air. Always willing to take part in any activities and a great friend to my daughter Kelly. Joanne joined our family on holiday in Devon a few years ago and we all had a fantastic week messing about on the river and sea in our boat. She will be sadly missed. X
"Joanne Dening a beautiful girl with such a kind soul who lived for the water. I feel honoured to have known you and feel so lucky to have been able to grow close to u (as you did with everyone) during my time at Wiilly g. We had some brilliant nights out but I especially loved our long chats in the office while u were DMing. Particularly Lots of conversations about the dream of living in Australia/New Zealand! You did it Jo!! I remember that feeling of pride and excitment when u told me u were moving to New Zealand, couldn’t believe u were doing it but knew you would live it to the absolute max. It certainly looks like u were living life to the full. It’s such a sad loss for too many people and u will be missed terribly! But I promise u this Jo I will always remember u with a smile, that smile that always beamed on your face no matter how u were feeling. That same smile your name always has and always will put on our faces Sleep tight darling xxxxx"

This is extremely hard to write as the loss of you is still so raw. We will miss you so much and cannot overcome the fact we will no longer see you every week! Thank you for all your hard work with Dominic from the first few months of his life to now as a big 3 year old. We watched his confident grow every week with you and you were an inspiration to him and he loved you so very much. We know you touched the hearts of many while you were with us and we all know that you are looking down over us. Shine bright Jo. R.I.P lovely lady xxx
"Joanne, a wonderful person to know, with a brillant sense of fun for living life to the full. I loved swimming in a team with you and your sister. I knew I would have a fun time in the team and you would definitely make us all laugh, forgetting any nerves we would have! I will always remember the team rope throw when no matter how hard you tried the rope just wasnt going out and finally it did but you no longer had hold of it..I and the rest of the team just found it so amusing and when you relised we all were laughing you joined in. We had many successes but mostly it was the fun we had swimming together and you will be sadly missed. My heart goes out to your family at this sad time ??Sleep tight Jo xx"
"Jo was a lovely person, friend work colleague and the best swimming instructor I’ve ever worked with. I’m going to miss you ?? "
