Terence Percy Lealand

Also known as "Terry"

19 February 193211 September 2022

Passed away peacefully at Hawera Hospital on 11 September 2022. Aged 90 years. Beloved, cherished, and admired husband of Wendy for 27 years, 27 years of exploration, adventure, and endless horizons. Loved father and father-in-law of Bevin & Sally Hoogeveen (New Plymouth), Raoul & Lynn Kelsen (Kinloch), Nicola and Jeff Penner (South Lake Tahoe, California), and Dwight (deceased). Proud grandfather and great-grandfather to rising generations of kids who have inherited Terry’s individuality, cleverness, and sense of inquisitiveness. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at The TSB Hub, Hawera, on Friday, 16 September at 1 pm, followed by a private cremation. Tributes can be left on Terry’s tribute page at hardingsfunerals.co.nz/tributes. In lieu of flowers, please support St John’s Ambulance or Hospice Taranaki. Without them, and Hawera Hospital, Terry’s last journey would not have been as loving and caring as it was. Smooth seas and following winds, my Prince of the Seas. We have been to the ends of the Earth and back again together. Cherished and loved, always.

Tributes

Terry X You will always be a prominent South Taranaki personality and icon, always to be remembered with love and kindness. With 90 years of stories and adventures you were interesting, always curious and always ready for a good joke and giggle. You are like the Labrador of men, completely reliable, easy going, generous with your friendship and your eyes would light up when a deserving and genuine compliment was bestowed on you. Over the years we have shared many happy gatherings with you and Wendy, in Hawera, Wellington, Palmerston North and Napier. We have celebrated milestone birthdays, mourned the passing of our loved family and friends, our much loved pets and welcomed the arrival of our new fur babies. You are one of our tried and true DIY Kiwis and one of the good guys. So many lovely, happy times, you will be missed but always remembered with love and gratitude for the privilege of knowing you. Terry, as I would always say when leaving you 'dont get up' - big hugs and a kiss for the road.
