Funeral service held at Mangere Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium
I'm sorry I can't be there today but I wanted to say just a few words in memory of Whai. One my 1st memories of Whai was his cheeky grin and infectious laugh, one that he shares with some of his brothers and could be heard through the house in Hill Street Te Kuiti at christmas times. He had a cheeky streak, especially when he'd turn his eyelids inside out and push his teeth out to scare his nephews. He was a force to be reckoned with and I think it was at his dad Charlies Tangi that unbeknownst to him he earned the nickname "the sheriff ". He loved his sport and did well in rugby representing Wanganui in 1980 & 1982 and if my memory is correct he and Mike played against each other in Taumarunui but I'm sure Mike can confirm this , and his love for horses became apparent in later years and with them he seemed his happiest. “Kua hinga he totara i te wao nui a Tane.”
