I will always remember Charles’s smile and happy demeanour. He always looked as though he had won the lottery. In many ways he had! I believe that he won first division in the lottery of life, on the day he met his beautiful wife Evelyn and starting raising a beautiful family with her and how wonderful they were all with him at the end. A wonderful innings Charles - may you now RIP. X

So very sorry to hear of Charles' passing having reached the wonderful age of 93 years. I'm sure it was Evelyn's baking that helped you reach this milestone Charles. I remember you both with much love, you were our first neighbours in Upper Hutt when Mike and I were first married and how lucky were we to have you two as role models. We watched in awe as you worked three jobs in those days Charles to support your family and sorry to say but we had a little giggle when Christmas time you loaded up literally everything but the kitchen sink into a trailer and off you all went camping, all the way to Paekaekariki. To us, still childless at this stage, it seemed a huge effort but I bet those memories are still with all your children to this day. I am so sorry I'm unable to be with you all today but send my love to you all. Rest in peace Charles, you truly were a gentleman.
