Dear and wonderful Jan, Megan and family, I’ll be linking in. I won’t be thinking FAREWELL. I’ll be CELEBRATING an amazing guy. I feel Jim with me now as he is with you so much more strongly, and likely skimming those icy hills he loved as well. It will be wonderful for Jim to see how loved he is for all time. Einstein said the mysteries of the world were beyond the human mind… Huge love and always THANKS! Humphry
Uncle Jim, thank you for being such a kind, generous and welcoming soul. I may not have been able to spend much time with you over the years, but you were always there when invited. Thank you for making the trip down south to be part of family events. I will always remember coming up to visit you and Aunty Jan and staying at your beautiful property. It was a pleasure to stay with you, to be welcome and included whole heartedly, and to go out kayaking with you. You have always been an inspiration with your many accomplishments and adventures, but your dedication and loyalty to family was above all else, and your true inspiration to others. You will always be remembered.
Dearest Jan and family, My heart is heavy for you all as you all prepare to say goodbye to your beloved Jim one last time - a much loved husband, father and friend to many. Jim’s love for his family was always evident, along with his passion for music which I loved, especially when performing in public with Denny and the Jets. Jim had an adventurous soul which took him to the heights of Mt Everest. May you continue to play your music and climb many more mountains as you look over your family from above Jim. Much love to you Jan and your family Marion
Jim was intelligent and adventurous and funny, but he was also unfailingly kind. Some of my earliest memories are of the excitement of seeing the tents pitched in the back yard, because that meant Jan and Jim were up from Christchurch. He would sing a ditty he had made up every time he said hello. I will miss him very much.
Jim was a graceful legend who taught me a lot. He had an intelligent business mind, adventure in his heart, and music in his soul. He loved his family and friends, and his wisdom and warmth lives on in the hearts he touched.
Uncle Jim, you were a legend in your own right. To me, you were a super star.. I was and am so proud, I couldn’t have asked for a more cooler, adventurous, humble and inspiring uncle.. now you can fly high and free with nana and enjoy all her cups of tea and climb every mountain you want too, guitar in hand xox
Jim you were an absolute gentleman, a gem, so lovely to know and this goes back for us nearly 60 years . Your kindness and love for everything you did and everyone you knew, shone through always. You and Janet were as solid as a rock, leading by example at all times. You were amazing in your endeavours to conquer Mt Everest, demonstrating such guts, determination and expertise and to guitar playing with such absolute brilliance. Jim you have lead an incredibly full life with Janet always at your side, You can both be so proud and stand tall. Safe journey Jim and thank you for all you have given us. With Love Helen and John
Jim was a kind and caring person and I feel lucky to have known him over the past thirty years. Rest in peace Jim.
In our family for nearly 50 years , it’s always been “ Janet and Jim” and now to be just “Janet” is very hard to hear. We have spent many ,many happy times over those years and Jim was so much part of our family, Mum and Dad thought the world of him as did my children, Mark and Lizzie , (and myself,)who to them he was a bit of a super hero, and with Mark, a guitar playing companion/uncle. He was a great brother in law to me and both he and Janet have been so supportive in hard times.Jim, don’t worry about Janet as we will all make sure she is supported and she has a wonderful family around her. So rest in peace and fly free , Kath, Mark and Lizzie x
It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Jim Young, a man whose life was as full of peaks and valleys as the mountains he loved to climb. Though I only knew Jim for a short time, his strength in the face of Parkinson's was truly inspiring. The love and warmth he clearly shared with his family – Simon, Chris, and his daughter Meggan– were evident in every interaction. His passion for music, particularly the guitar, is a legacy that lives on, not only in his heart, but also in the beautiful sounds Meggan creates on her violin. Jim leaves behind a family he cherished, a life well-lived, and the memory of a man who faced challenges with grace and filled the world with his love for family and music. He will be deeply missed.
Dad was, to me as a young kid, my "cool old man" who took me on adventures and was always game for a laugh and bit of mischief. He also taught me how to do most of the things I still enjoy today. Later in life, we also became good friends, and that's how I will remember him. Rest easy, mate.
How lucky I am to have had a father so special that I miss you this much? As much as I'm so sad not having you around I'm happy to know you are at peace. You may not be with us anymore but my love for you will never end. Thank you for your guidance and strength, all the adventures, the coffees and chats, the music shared and especially the unconditional love you have shown me and precious mum, sons and family. Love ya heaps dad and keep that guitar smoking and singing all my love Megs xxx
Megs and I had already been in the band KEEGAN for a year before I met Jim and Jan and realized that Jim was the incredibly lovely finance man!!! He was the most interesting and positive musician, and supported our band in so many ways. I met him in theART ward where we'd both had strokes. He wall for getting out of the ward and getting on with it again!! It was bloody inspiring and helped me hugely in my recovery. Dennys and the Jets rocked it....I think Megs got her professional chops from his example and our band did really well under Megs leadership. I loved knowing Jim, I send all my best to Jan and Meghan and the rest of the family. Michael Lipscombe
Dad taught me many things both practical and also how to live with adventure, respect and love. I told you Dad when I last saw you that you were the best Dad ever. You were also my best friend. I will say more at your celebration of life on Friday when surrounded by all the people that love you Xx Chris & Becs
Jim was a skilled and soulful lead guitarist/vocalist in our band - Denny and the Jets. I have many fond memories of playing packed gigs with Jimmy around Nelson in the 90's. R.I.P mate Denny
