Tributes

Christine & Te Uraura, Cameron & Whanau Deep sorrow after hearing of the tragic loss of your Daniel. I remember the happiness you shared after the birth of your twin boys who were blessed to have you as parents. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Love Claire

We are heartbroken to lose Daniel. He was such a special part of our lives - from the early days growing up on Govett Ave as neighbours, through teenage years and more recently, always staying in touch. As fellow twins, the bond was always something unique and cherished. So many beautiful memories to hold close, and we will treasure them always. Our thoughts are with Pete, Chris, Cameron and the extended Nganeko whānau during this heartbreaking time. With love, Judy and Kevin Laura and Alex Blair and Clare

Dan, I don’t even know where to begin. I still remember the way my face lit up on the first day I saw you at Retail Zoo and you smiled at me and asked if I wanted to get lunch with you. I’ll forever cherish the moments we shared in the years that followed. All the chats, the laughs, the late nights and everything in-between. You truly were such a special , charismatic and talented man, and you’ll always hold a place in my heart. I hope you know you’ve left a lasting impression on everyone that was lucky enough to know you. Rest in peace ❤️

Dan was a lovely human being. Always had a big smile and something to laugh about. He was amazing to work with at NGV. While I didn't get to work alongside him often I will cherish every time I did. Always open for a chat, a drink and passed on his knowledge with every question I had. I will cherish all these little moments and little laughs. He was sunshine encapsulated in one person, his happiness was infectious. It is a huge loss for everyone that knew Daniel. He will leave a lasting impression and good memories in all of us. My condolences to his family and friends, my heart is with you all.

Last week we lost our dear friend, colleague, collaborator and wonderful human Dan Nganeko. His absence leaves a huge gaping hole and this loss will break the hearts of all who knew him. I worked with Dan at the NGV for several years and when I focussed on building my freelance business he was my go-to for anything I couldn't tackle on my own. He was wonderful company, loyal, enthusiastic, completely reliable and brought the perfect mix of a light touch, an open smile, a great sense of humour and perfectionist dedication to his craft. Sending much love to his family and friends from Melbourne. Dan, you'll be missed more than you will ever get to know. 💔
