Incredibly sad to hear the news of Eric’s passing. Eric (Mr Shaw) was my principal at Highlands Intermediate in 2004 & 2005 and he had a profound impact on me. Not only was he the most kind man, he inspired me to strive for excellence and be the best possible version of myself which is something that I have carried through to my adult life. I bumped into him at the supermarket a few years ago and I couldn’t believe he still recognised me after all that time, a true testament to how much he cared about every student who was lucky enough to know him. We have known Eric through wider family connections; he was always such a lovely person with a genuine interest in you. We were priviledged to know Eric as a friend, colleague and educator. We first met him at Inglewood Primary as young teachers, where we had great fun in and out of the school setting, and we continued our association over many years. We recognised his special ability to lead and innovate in the educational sphere and published books of his thinking/philospophy through our publishing company so it could be shared widely. He was an inspiration to many and an all round ‘genuinely nice guy’ with a warm and welcoming smile. He has left his mark on many and legacy will live on. Aroha to you all
