MARTIN, Raymond Stanley (Ray)

20/12/1944 - 17/10/2025

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dearest Ray, who passed peacefully at home on Friday 17 October 2025, surrounded by his family.

Ray was a dearly loved husband and best friend of Joan. Adored Dad, father-in-law and mentor of Suzanne and Fraser, Karen and Darren. Dearly loved Grandy of Samara, Michael, Emma and Andrea. Loved Great Grandy of Scarlett, Zoey, Cooper and Ayla. Loved brother of Trish and John, Brad (dec), Ken and Maureen (both dec), and Laurance (dec). Loved brother- in-law of Yvonne (dec) and Dave, Ann and Tony (both dec), Claire and Peter, Lois and Pat.

We would like to offer thanks to the Kaikoura Hospital Staff, for their care and support over the last few years, and special thanks to Dr Chris Henry. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cure Parkinson NZ would be appreciated.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at the Kaikoura Trotting Club, South Bay, on Thursday 23 October 2025, at 1.30pm. Followed by burial at the Kaikoura Public Cemetery.

Due to Ray’s love of denim, jeans will be the dress code.

“Whilst he no longer walks among us, his love and memory will always remain in our hearts”

Goodbye uncle Ray. Thanks for the memories and helping me to enjoy motorbikes with Dad. Love you Joan and family.

Uncle Ray .. so many memories, so many moments, all with love, and humor. I was so lucky to have such a awesome human being in my life from day one. You taught me lessons , like do not jump off a boat until it is shallow water, and other more important ones. Your love, kindness, caring and giving heart was second to none. Always there with solid advise. A very talented and clever man who had very little book learning but could dream up ideas and put them to use like no one could. You were one of a kind, the very best kind. You helped shape who I am today, that special Uncle that could move mountains and put a smile on your face, turn negatives into lessons and lessons into life skills. I hope your brothers greeted you with a cup of tea, 2 spoons and 2 grains of sugar a must. Aunty Joan you are a saint you gave Uncle Ray the best life he could have had, you took care of him when he needed it, you were his advocate , his love and his best friend . Thank you seems inadequate but I do appreciate both of you so very much. Julie and the gang in USA

Dear Ray (and Joan), Even though we left Kaikoura with our family years ago, we often think back to our time in 'Kaiks and the people who made it a special chapter in our lives. Some people have a way of lighting up every room they walk into — and you were one of them. Always ready with a cheeky comment and that unmistakable twinkle in your eye, you (especially in combination with Joan) could turn any ordinary moment into one filled with laughter. We will forever treasure these memories. Our hearts go out to the family and friends you leave behind, our sincere condolences. Love; Mieke, Caroline, Juno and Harlow
