Grandma was a wonderful mother figure to me. She was there for the burial of Reinier and my twins lost in pregnancy, at our wedding, always someone I told about my pregnancies the same day I found out, she visited me with a number of my newborns and was always a loving and encouraging support as I became a Mum these last 7 years. She was always the one I went to for mothering advice and shared my joy-filled and worrisome moments with. I am unable to express just how much she will be deeply missed. I wish I had lived closer in those final years but she made such a huge and amazing effort to come and visit us regularly, my children all know and love her because of it. I am eternally grateful for her love, encouragement and stability and owe all that I am as a mother, wife and woman to her <3. She loved that my family Christmas traditions all came from her and I will pass these onto my children which I know from our talks last Christmas she would love. I will miss sending all my birthday and cake decoration pictures for the kids to her and sharing the joy we both found in these occasions...and so many more things. It crosses my mind at least 3 or 4 times a day that she would love to see this or find this funny or cute, that she would love, or be interested in, an update on this or that etc. You were a special person in my life and I love you Grandma <3
Rita and I spent time with Noor and Peter both in Red Hills and in Hengelo. They welcomed us to Red Hills on several occasions and lent us a car to travel around the North Island. We had the ‘privilege’ of sleeping in the room with the triangular windows, that the curtains couldn’t cover. I have memories of one of her favourite dishes – fish cakes. In 2002, we were in Hengelo at the same time as Noor, as she criss-crossed the country buying quality old Dutch oak furniture to take back to NZ. I wonder what happened to that… We have been able to stay many times at ‘number 78’ in Hengelo, which we have really appreciated. Congratulations to the children and grandchildren, who cared for Noor and Peter in hospital, and conducted such a professional and heartfelt life celebration.
I have many happy memories of Noor. One of the earliest was the Sinte Claas just before Noor and Peter migrated to NZ. I was about eight and happy riding on the back of Peter’s bike as the three of us explored around Hengelo. Then as an adult the many times we caught up in either Hengelo, NZ or Perth. Noor was always fun to be with. We shared a love of visiting op shops and looking at interesting art and nature. I always loved visiting or catching up with Noor, whenever our paths and plans crossed. I will think of her as I see rainbows and keep her in my heart. With all my love, Rita
In 1980, Peter returned from a visit to the Netherlands with me in his suitcase. I had been ill and needed a break. Without hesitation, I became part of the Tiedemann family for a few months, under Noor's loving wings. The enormous lovely hospitality of Noor and Peter, but also the naturalness of Rodger, Erica, Douglas, and Chris, made it perfectly normal for them to welcome a skinny bantam chicken from the Netherlands into the family, and that was heartwarming! In those few months, we did so much and had so much fun: hikes to waterfalls, racing cars in the paddock with Douglas, (with the occasional bit of damage); catching runaway cows, diving, flying, canyoning, rafting—it was endless! With you, I found myself again and was able to recover, in a family where everything was okay and no one thought anything strange. Special, unexpected months in New Zealand with the Tiedemann family, which were so important to me as a young girl. Noor put her children first, and she put everything aside for them... and also for me; I was able to stay under her wing too and there was always enough room! Thank you dear, wise, and creative Noor, for your love, attention, and care for me! You are in my heart, and I carry you with me. Dear family Tiedemann, thank you for being able to attend the celebration of Noor's live. Sending love and strength to all of you: Noor will always be there. Manon
Sharing my appreciation for the best grandmother that one could have ever asked for. Thankful to have spent all my life with someone so loving and so caring. Thank for teaching and showing me so much in life. Love Cameron And Jonathan Tiedemann
Dear Uncle Peter, Rodger, Douglas, Christopher, Erica and extended families, Thinking of you all today, condolenses on the passing of Aunty Noor. A kind, generous and caring aunty to Carl, Lea and I in the early 70s when Peter and Noor looked after us. I have happy Brookvale Road, Havelock North, memories as a child, of Noor with lots of labrador puppies, the kitchen/laundry area was a makeshift pet area for all these fluffy, cute and busy puppies that needed feeding milk continuosly, I remember Noor loving animals. Our house in those days was always fun, full of kids, babies, visitors from Holland, budgies, guinea pigs and a dog. Sending hugs and Kia Kaha, Louise and Steve
