Tributes

I've been friends with Baz (Mark) since we met in 1982 at Wellington College. We were both sprinters and we always joked how our meeting was like the Gallipoli movie around the same time. It wasn't till 86 that I first visited Orchard Street in Wadestown. By that time Mark and I had been friends for almost five years. I'd already met Liz by then. Listening to the words of the family during the service, they were spot on. Liz would tell Mark to "get the boys a beer". Always a great host. Later that year a group of us stayed at Kuratau and enjoyed the Barrett hospitality. In fact, we stayed the next year too. But it wasn't the hospitality that we remembered. It was Liz's way of making you feel included. Making you feel welcome. Such a soft and welcoming voice. No doubt, as teenagers, we'd not thought about the added expense that having 3 extra teenage boys added to the logistics - food for one! And Liz and Cam never made us aware. Tongue-in-cheek here, but Mark met the lovely Deb at our wedding and several years later we attended their wedding. Having two female friends married to mates means Mark and I never have to worry about organising catch ups ever again! Mark has talked often over the years of his mum and family, and I would like to offer my condolences to John, Rog and Suzy.
